Scout Orient, 8, helped Fairmont Pittsburgh last Saturday decorate and taste-test its new, special holiday dessert, which will be featured on its special menu this year. Scout, who was diagnosed with brain cancer, rolled up her sleeves and stood side-by-side with a pastry chef, helping to create a sweet masterpiece. “It looked very fun,” Scout said about decorating. ” a cake fan.” Pamela Orient said Scout had talked about the opportunity with the hotel nonstop for days. “Scout has been talking about this opportunity since she heard about it,” Pamela said. “She is just so excited, she’s told all of her friends, teachers, and everyone.”Pamela said that since her daughter was diagnosed, Make-A-Wish has been by the family’s side, giving her daughter a chance to have a multitude of experiences. “Scout has a brain tumor and, unfortunately, it is too big and too deep to come out, so she had to undergo chemotherapy,” Pamela said. “And during that time you’re in some of, like, the deepest and darkest points of your life, and you don’t know what’s going to come next. And then, we were met with a great reward, which was our friends at Make-A-Wish, and they have been by our side ever since this journey started, and they haven’t left.” The dessert Scout has helped decorate will be sold in the hotel’s restaurant through Dec. 31, and part of the proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish.
