BENSALEM, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) \u2014 A man found guilty of severely abusing his three-month-old son more than a decade ago has been charged in connection with his death.<\/p>\n
In October 2012, medical staff at Aria Torresdale Hospital \u2014 now Jefferson Torresdale Hospital \u2014 reported that Kyle Hinkle\u2019s son had brain bleeds and retinal hemorrhages, injuries officials say are signs of abuse. A CAT scan revealed new and old injuries in various stages of healing.<\/p>\n
Staff contacted Bensalem Police, and the infant was then taken to St. Christopher\u2019s Hospital for Children, where he was admitted to the ICU.<\/p>\n
A Child Protection Program doctor determined that significant force consistent with abusive head trauma caused the infant\u2019s injuries. Hinkle admitted he shook his son multiple times and did not support his head while he was trying to get him to stop crying.<\/p>\n
Hinkle pleaded guilty to aggravated and simple assault and child endangerment charges and was sentenced to two years in county prison.<\/p>\n
On Aug. 14, 2024, Hinkle\u2019s son died at age 11 in Oliver, Fayette County. An autopsy determined he died from complications from the abuse he suffered as an infant, including blunt force trauma to the head and neck.<\/p>\n
Based on those findings, the Bucks County District Attorney\u2019s Office charged Hinkle, now 38 years old and living in Allentown, with third-degree murder. He has since been apprehended and remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility.<\/p>\n
