{"id":44192,"date":"2025-11-25T13:33:06","date_gmt":"2025-11-25T13:33:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/44192\/"},"modified":"2025-11-25T13:33:06","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T13:33:06","slug":"major-philadelphia-road-projects-ending-soon-and-coming-in-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/44192\/","title":{"rendered":"Major Philadelphia road projects ending soon and coming in 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From Philly and the Pa. suburbs to South Jersey and Delaware, what would you like WHYY News to cover? <a href=\"#Section1\">Let us know!<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>Drivers on I-76, I-95, U.S. Route 1 and U.S. Route 202 will receive the gift of less sinkholes, wider lanes \u2014 and some traffic delays heading into the holidays as PennDOT continues work in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the holidays approach, we do our best to avoid any kind of impact to motorists,\u201d PennDOT spokesperson Brad Rudolph said. \u201cIn fact, we specify in most of the contracts for contractors and others to avoid peak travel times, which would be Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>There <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pa.gov\/agencies\/penndot\/projects-near-you\/district-6-projects\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">are 147 active and upcoming projects in PennDOT\u2019s District 6<\/a>, which encompasses Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.\n  <\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what major projects are expected to end, continue and get started heading into 2026:\n<\/p>\n<p>Ending soon: U.S. Route 1 improvement \u2018won\u2019t impact the holidays\u2019<\/p>\n<p>After more than four years of construction, PennDOT <a href=\"https:\/\/us1bucks.com\/2025\/10\/03\/u-s-1-bucks-construction-update-fall-2025\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201csubstantially completed\u201d<\/a> in October the $116 million Section RC2 project on U.S. Route 1 in Bucks County.\n<\/p>\n<p>The project adds a third lane in each direction, replacing bridges and improving interchanges in Bensalem and Middletown townships. The updates are a year ahead of schedule.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first section was done a couple of years ago,\u201d Rudolph said. \u201cWe are wrapping up this winter the second section of widening that highway. So, there\u2019s still restrictions periodically on U.S. 1 in Bucks County, specifically Middletown and Bensalem. But again, those should be wrapping up towards the winter and won\u2019t impact the holidays.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Daily traffic <a href=\"https:\/\/transform76.com\/program-information\/overview\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">has doubled on I-76<\/a> since the 1960s, according to PennDOT.
