Join Mickey Mouse and his friends for adventure and hijinks at \u201cDisney on Ice presents Road Trip Adventures,\u201d Dec. 11-14, PPL Center, Allentown.<\/p>\n
Families will experience magical Disney moments, dazzling stunts and character interaction.<\/p>\n
Special effects and innovative technology enhance the journey.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s an immersive experience with audience participation, from sing-alongs to on-stage events, with one lucky family invited to ride in the \u201cMagic Mobile.\u201d<\/p>\n
Performer and figure skater Marcus Mimidis, a native of Lancaster County, joined Feld Entertainment in 2013. In addition to \u201cRoad Trip Adventures,\u201d he has performed in \u201cDisney on Ice presents \u201cPrincesses & Heroes,\u201d \u201c100 Years of Magic\u201d and \u201cDream Big.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mimidis began skating at age 9. After watching the 2002 Olympic Games, he developed a strong interest in speed-skating.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was actually no speed skating coaching or training in our area,\u201d Mimidis says in a phone interview. \u201cSo instead, I became a competitive figure skater.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy parents got me on the ice to learn to skate and I just haven\u2019t stopped.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mimidis attended Manheim Township High School, Lancaster County, and The Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School. He trained at The Skating Club of Wilmington, Del., and is a three-time national competitor, placing 19th in Intermediate class, 2009; 11th in Novice class, 2011; and 9th in Junior class, 2013.<\/p>\n
Mimidis names Johnny Weir, the two-time Olympian figure-skater, who also hails from Lancaster County, as the skater who inspired him.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe became an extremely successful world and Olympic skater. We had the same coach for a few years while I was training out of Delaware.\u201d<\/p>\n
In \u201cRoad Trip Adventures,\u201d Mimidis plays the role of Genie from \u201cDisney\u2019s Aladdin.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the live-action adaptation that Will Smith did [in 2019.], it\u2019s a more modernized take on the classic role. It\u2019s quite fun.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m definitely drawing from history and the past iconic moments that [Disney] characters have made.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor the role I have as Genie, I\u2019m able to put more of myself and my own personality, and what makes sense to me, into this role, while still trying to remain true to the character.\u201d<\/p>\n
There is a cast of approximately 50 performers in \u201cDisney on Ice presents Road Trip Adventures.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSome of them are figure skaters, some are BMX riders, some are aerialists,\u201d says Mimidis.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s something that\u2019s really interesting about this show. We have many different types of performers. Classically, \u2018Disney on Ice\u2019 was only ice-skating but now we have more disciplines.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mimidis is on a six-month tour throughout the United States and in Canada. \u201cRoad Trip Adventures\u201d is one of the newer \u201cDisney on Ice\u201d productions. It was initially created before the pandemic.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe show re-opened four years ago,\u201d says Mimidis. \u201cIn it, Minnie and Mickey Mouse take their friends, Donald and Goofy, on a road trip with the audience, and they stop at different destinations based on the Disney movies.\u201d<\/p>\n
Designed for all ages, the show takes audiences to various Disney settings, featuring characters and scenes from \u201cThe Lion King,\u201d \u201cMoana,\u201d \u201cToy Story,\u201d \u201cFrozen,\u201d \u201cAladdin,\u201d \u201cMary Poppins\u201d and \u201cThe Incredibles.\u201d There are Disney princesses and classic characters.<\/p>\n
The show encourages audience interaction.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe audience has opportunities to actively participate. They can be a part of the show in different ways and interact first-hand with the performers on the ice, and with the host.<\/p>\n
\u201c[Audiences] can expect to see a grand production,\u201d says Mimidis.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe show has a lot of technical elements, a lot of different styles of performing.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey can also expect nostalgia and to feel emotional, especially if they\u2019re bringing families, living that experience through their children who are seeing all of this for the first time.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s very sensory, very exciting and definitely worth a watch.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the holiday season so I highly recommend coming out and seeing the show. It will be a great gift for the family.\u201d<\/p>\n
