An all-ages clothing swap will be part of Snow Much Fun Day at the Everhart Museum in Scranton on Saturday. Donate an item by Tuesday morning and get a ticket good for one item at the swap.<\/p>\n
After several earlier donation dates, around 2,000 winter items for men, women and children are ready for the racks. It is largely women\u2019s clothes, with good supplies of sweaters and holiday-ready looks.<\/p>\n
Former model Hannah Radkiewicz is staging the ninth Swap Scranton since the end of the pandemic. \u201cI think people were craving a sense of connection, of community,\u201d she said. She also saw a pent-up desire to refresh wardrobes. Swaps keep perfectly good clothes out of landfills.<\/p>\n
Jeannine Luby of Scranton picked up some clothes at previous Swap Scranton events and has already dropped off donations for Saturday.<\/p>\n

Expand<\/a><\/p>\n She dropped off a seldom-worn little black dress that doesn\u2019t fit and a midriff-baring dress bought on impulse and soon regretted.<\/p>\n Luby\u2019s previous finds include a Nirvana T-shirt, a white blouse, leggings and sweaters.<\/p>\n \u201cI just think it is a really neat idea and it\u2019s a great way to keep clothing in circulation,\u201d Luby said. Like thrift shops, clothing swaps can turn up good finds, she said.<\/p>\n She tries to reuse things and avoid waste. She cited a Netflix documentary, \u201cBuy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy,\u201d about discarded and donated clothes dumped in overflowing African landfills. \u201cWe are consuming too much and it is sickening,\u201d Luby said.<\/p>\n Don\u2019t bring clothes to the event. Donations will be accepted Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Electric City Trolley Museum, 300 Cliff St., Scranton. The other donation date is Tuesday, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the trolley museum.<\/p>\n Radkiewicz is a recreational therapist who lives in Scranton, has done some modeling and worked in retail. \u201cPersonally, l love clothing and I love fashion,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Only gently used and new winter clothing, shoes and accessories, will be accepted. Radkiewicz and her volunteers will reject swimwear, intimate garments, personalized items and clothes with holes or broken zippers.<\/p>\n Leftovers will be donated to Friends of the Poor and the Catherine McAuley Center; the two nonprofits recently merged.<\/p>\n Snow Much Fun Day at the Everhart Museum in Nay Aug Park is also Saturday. The swap will take place alongside crafts, games, music by Doug Smith\u2019s Jazz Trio, a winter-themed photo booth and other activities.<\/p>\n This year\u2019s theme is Warmth Around the World. The crafts will include styling paper dolls in the traditions of different cultures.<\/p>\n Both events are from noon to 4 p.m. Museum admission will be free from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.<\/p>\n Back at the museum Dec. 12, the Repurposed Fashion Show will raise money for Friends of the Poor and the Catherine McAuley Center and Swap Scranton.<\/p>\n Local artists are creating designs from repurposed clothing and showing off looks from previous swaps. An accompanying art exhibit will display local art fashioned from recycled cardboard and other materials.<\/p>\n The $75 ticket includes two drinks and light fare catered by Cooper\u2019s Seafood House.
