Upper Darby firefighters were sent to a house fire in the 300 block of Margate Road about 6:45 p.m. Saturday, with subsequent calls from the scene reporting people on the second floor of the house trying to escape the fire building.<\/p>\n
Police arrived in the block and began evacuating residences. Police said they were working to get a woman on oxygen out of the residence, plus there was a report of a 10-year-old also inside, according to radio traffic.<\/p>\n
There were some anxious moments at the scene.<\/p>\n
Fire crews quickly fanned out and before 7 p.m. a knock on the flames was declared and searches of the fire building were negative, according to radio traffic.<\/p>\n
It was unclear whether that youth was ever in the building.<\/p>\n
Some isolated spots of smoke and fire were still being worked on at 7 p.m. The incident was declared under control at that time, according to radio traffic.<\/p>\n
Board-up was sought for six windows and two doors. One person was evaluated for smoke inhalation.<\/p>\n
