WVU Men\u2019s Basketball snapped a two-game skid with a 70-38 win over Mercyhurst University Sunday at Hope Coliseum.<\/p>\n
Fifth-year guard Chance Moore nearly recorded a double-double in his first regular-season game at Hope Coliseum, notching 11 points and nine rebounds.<\/p>\n
The Mountaineers opened the matchup with a dominant 10-0 run in the first four minutes of action. Senior center Harlan Obioha connected on a basket inside the paint and senior guard Honor Huff drilled his first three-point attempt of the afternoon.<\/p>\n
Senior guard Treysen Eaglestaff made a layup to cap it off, putting WVU up 10-0, followed by a Mercyhurst timeout with 16:47 left in the first half.<\/p>\n
Mercyhurst broke out of the timeout with a jumper by guard Bernie Blunt III, cutting the score to 10-2.<\/p>\n
Senior guard Brenen Lorient made a jumper, followed by a steal by Huff into a transition dunk by Lorient. The Mountaineers extended their lead to 14-2 with 15:23 left in the first half.<\/p>\n
Blunt hit a three-pointer, leading to a WVU timeout. Out of the stoppage, a bad pass from Obioha led to another Blunt three-pointer, cutting the Mountaineer advantage down to 18-11.<\/p>\n
Mercyhurst finished a 10-0 run with a jumper by forward Qadir Martin, making it 18-15.<\/p>\n
Fifth-year guard Chance Moore threw down a fastbreak dunk to put the Mountaineers up 31-19.<\/p>\n
WVU ended the half on a 8-0 run backed by five points from Moore.<\/p>\n
At the break, The Mountaineers led the Lakers 39-22. Lorient and Moore led scoring for the Mountaineers with nine points each. Blunt had 12 points for Mercyhurst, shooting 2-for-3 from the three-point range.<\/p>\n
Eaglestaff drilled a three-pointer as the Mountaineers opened the second half on a 11-2 run. A made free throw by senior forward Jackson Fields finished off the run, putting WVU up 52-24.<\/p>\n
After a layup by Martin, WVU went on a 9-0 run. Freshman guard Amir Jenkins and Eaglestaff each connected on layups, while Obioha finished off the run with a bucket in the paint. The Mountaineers led 61-28 with 8:31 remaining in the game.<\/p>\n
Moore finished a layup inside to reach double-figure scoring, making WVU\u2019s lead 65-33 with 4:18 left to play.<\/p>\n
Freshman guard Jayden Forsythe sank a three-pointer in the final moments of the game, giving WVU a 68-38 lead.<\/p>\n
The Mountaineers return to action against Coppin State University at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hope Coliseum.
