{"id":49190,"date":"2025-12-01T17:42:06","date_gmt":"2025-12-01T17:42:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/49190\/"},"modified":"2025-12-01T17:42:06","modified_gmt":"2025-12-01T17:42:06","slug":"esquires-2025-list-of-the-best-new-restaurants-includes-phillys-emmett","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/49190\/","title":{"rendered":"Esquire&#8217;s 2025 list of the best new restaurants includes Philly&#8217;s Emmett"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Emmett, the Levantine restaurant that opened in Olde Kensington in January, made Esquire&#8217;s annual list of the best new dining spots in the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The lifestyle magazine included 33 restaurants on its <a data-original-title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.esquire.com\/food-drink\/restaurants\/a69501755\/best-new-restaurants-america-2025\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2025 list<\/a>. <a data-original-title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phillyvoice.com\/mediterranean-restaurant-levantine-philly-emmett-bar-girard\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emmett<\/a>, headed\u00a0by chef Evan Snyder and managing partner Julian van der Tak, is the only one from Pennsylvania.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.phillyvoice.com\/recipe-philly-center-city-reality-show-contest\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Amateur chefs vie to get their homemade dishes on the menu of Recipe Philly<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Esquire called Emmett the &#8220;Philly flavor of now&#8221; and highlighted its rye tartlet with Wagyu tartare, sesame madeleines charred corn agnolotti.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As the streetcars clang by, chef Evan Snyder harnesses the techniques and ingredients of the Middle East for a dinner that tingles with invention and big swings,&#8221; Joshua David Stein wrote.\u00a0&#8220;How else to describe an absolute banger of duck breast with date malfouf? It&#8217;s another reason, as Philly boys Hall &amp; Oates once sang, &#8216;to spend another fall in Philadelphia.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Esquire judged restaurants based on a mix of food and atmosphere\u00a0\u2014 places where &#8220;spectacular food is coupled with a damn good time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re absolutely honored to be mentioned among so many other incredible restaurants around the country, including people we look up to and are inspired by,&#8221; van der Tak said in an email. &#8220;It&#8217;s an acknowledgement of our team&#8217;s tireless commitment and a mandate to continue to provide the same exceptional experience to every guest we share an evening with, and to represent Philadelphia and its community of outstanding restaurants.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Emmett&#8217;s rotating menu features the cuisines of several Mediterranean countries, including Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel and Palestine with dishes such as crudos, pasta and fired meats.\u00a0The 1,600-square-foot restaurant, at\u00a0161 W. Girard Ave.,\u00a0includes 36 table seats and a 10-seat bar.<\/p>\n<p>Synder joined Emmett after serving as executive chef of Redcrest Kitchen in Queen Village.
