ALLENTOWN, Pa. \u2013 Just in time for the holidays, a popular, family-run bakery will make a sweet comeback in Lehigh County.<\/p>\n
Luna\u2019s Bakery & Cafe, a family-run bakery offering made-from-scratch breads, cakes, pastries and other baked goods, is set to open Monday, Dec. 8, at 1120 W. Linden St. in Allentown.<\/p>\n

The bakery had previously operated at the same Allentown site from 2012 to 2023 before husband and wife owners Luis and Dalila Luna moved to Florida to spend time with family.<\/p>\n
The Lunas recently relocated back to Allentown and are excited to revive their beloved business and welcome back loyal customers and friends.<\/p>\n
On visits to the Lehigh Valley over the past couple of years, the Lunas would often bump into former customers while grocery shopping or running other errands, and the conversations inevitably led to the individuals expressing how much they missed the bakery.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re really excited to be home again,\u201d Dalila told 69 News.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we\u2019d do errands while visiting, our old customers would see us and say things like, \u2018Oh my God, you\u2019re Luna\u2019s Bakery! When are you coming back?\u2019 So, we\u2019re just really excited to be back and serve our community again.\u201d<\/p>\n

In its first decade-plus run, Luna\u2019s Bakery amassed a large and loyal following thanks to its friendly service and fresh, made-from-scratch treats.<\/p>\n
The Lunas showcase their Puerto Rican background in many of the bakery\u2019s items, including traditional Puerto Rican favorites such as pastelillos and alcapurrias.<\/p>\n
The bakery\u2019s new iteration will offer the same menu items that fans remember, Dalila said.<\/p>\n
Some of the staple selections that will be returning include breads such as pan sobao (semi-sweet bread) and pan de agua (water bread); baked goods such as cakes, flan and cornbread; and savory items such as empanadas and relleno de papa.<\/p>\n

Three of the bakery\u2019s most popular selections include its cornbread, quesitos (puff pastries filled with sweet cream cheese) and \u201cchi flan\u201d (combination of cheesecake and flan with cheesecake layer on bottom and flan layer on top).<\/p>\n
Once again, Luna\u2019s Bakery also will offer freshly prepared sandwiches, including a Cubano, tripleta, pernil and variety of classic breakfast sandwiches, along with morning favorites such avena (oatmeal) and harina de ma\u00edz (cornmeal porridge).<\/p>\n
Luna\u2019s Bakery, which also had a second location on Union Boulevard on Allentown\u2019s East Side for a few years, will continue to operate as a family-run business that takes pride in treating every guest like family.<\/p>\n
The Lunas\u2019 son, Luis Luna Jr., previously assisted with day-to-day operations before moving to Tennessee a few years ago.<\/p>\n
He\u2019s continuing to help with some administrative work remotely.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe community support and nostalgia for the bakery are what really prompted my parents to return,\u201d Luis Luna Jr. said.<\/p>\n
Luna Bakery\u2019s traditional, made-from-scratch treats and its unassuming location near a multitude of rowhomes is reminiscent of the many bakeries, known as panaderias, found in Puerto Rico and various Latin American countries, Dalila said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen people come inside, they say things like, \u2018Oh my God, this reminds me of my hometown,\u201d or \u2018My grandmother used to take me to a bakery like this,\u2019\u201d Dalila said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI tell my parents all of the time that they\u2019re not only providing baked goods,” Luis Luna Jr. added. “They’re also providing opportunities to remember things and make even more memories with family.”<\/p>\n

The Lunas are excited to reconnect with longtime customers as well as meet new friends when their bakery reopens around the holidays, Dalila said.<\/p>\n
The family implemented cosmetic upgrades to the space, which previously housed Dulce’s Bakery over the past couple of years.<\/p>\n
