SALISBURY TWP., Pa. —\u00a0A wet day of snow and rain left roads across the region slick, and below-freezing temperatures Tuesday night could make traveling even more difficult.<\/p>\n
Snow and rain hit the region at different times throughout the entire day Monday, leaving much of our area soaked heading into a cold night.<\/p>\n
“I had to drive to Reading,” Sam, an Easton resident, said. “It was pretty disgusting.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Bethlehem Department of Public Works said skeleton teams will monitor trouble spots overnight, focusing on bridges, ramps, and streets that usually freeze first.<\/p>\n
“Below 33 [degrees], we’re freezing, \u00a0so we’re definitely gonna slip. Hopefully everybody stays safe,” Sam added.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Many drivers said the changing conditions made travel unpredictable.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“I got a truck, so it’s not too bad driving in it,” Lehigh Valley resident, Nick, said. “I had to take my sister to work because I didn’t want her to slip and slide on the black ice, but it was pretty bad this morning.”<\/p>\n
Public works officials warn that side streets and alleyways, which don’t get treated as often, could be especially slick.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Drive really slow. Don’t take the corners fast,” Nick said. “And if you have all-wheel drive, definitely use it.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
Pedestrians should also prepare for icy sidewalks as pooling water freezes. Travelers say they’re slowing down, leaving space, and watching for ice overnight into tomorrow morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n
