An arctic cold front will sweep through the Lehigh Valley on Thursday, bringing dramatically dropping temperatures and the potential for brief snow showers.<\/p>\n

Residents should prepare for a significant temperature plunge, with highs only reaching the mid-30s and west winds gusting up to 30 mph making it feel even colder.<\/p>\n

The National Weather Service<\/a> warns that Thursday night into Friday morning will bring extremely cold conditions, with temperatures falling into the teens and potentially challenging record low temperatures for Dec. 5.<\/p>\n

The Poconos and higher elevations could see temperatures drop into single digits, creating dangerous wind chill conditions during the evening hours.<\/p>\n

A few snow showers are possible along and north of Interstate 80 during the day Thursday, with a slight chance of snow squalls in the far northern parts of the area. While accumulation is not expected to be significant, travelers should be prepared for sudden, brief periods of reduced visibility and potentially slick road conditions.<\/p>\n

The cold pattern will continue through the weekend, with temperatures remaining well below normal.<\/p>\n

Friday morning will start with temperatures in the teens, and daytime highs will struggle to reach the mid-30s. A potential light snow system is possible Friday, particularly for areas near the I-95 corridor, with minor accumulations possible.<\/p>\n

Regional record lows for Friday\u2019s date, Dec. 5, include 11 degrees set in 1926 at Lehigh Valley International Airport outside Allentown, 2 below zero in 1971 at Mount Pocono, 12 in 1926 at Reading and 13 in 1886 in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead, another cold front will pass through late Sunday, reinforcing the arctic air mass. Temperatures are expected to remain below average through early next week, with potential for another light snow system developing Tuesday night. Residents should continue to dress in layers and take precautions against the cold throughout the weekend.<\/p>\n
