Horton Street between Church Street and Warren Street will be closed to through traffic beginning at 6 a.m. Thursday through next week, as work to repair two sinkholes that opened up this past summer nears completion.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Horton Street, between Church Street and Roosevelt Street, will be closed to through traffic on Monday, Dec. 8.<\/p>\n
The road will be closed as contractors replace a manhole, in conjunction with the finalization of the Horton Street project.<\/p>\n
City officials said residents will still have access to their homes during the work, and Church Street will be open to allow access to Geisinger South Hospital.<\/p>\n
Wilkes-Barre Mayor George C. Brown announced the planned road work a little over a week ago, when Horton Street was temporarily reopened for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.<\/p>\n
Horton Street has been closed since June 25, when a large sinkhole<\/a> opened in the middle of the street, followed by a second subsidence opened up on July <\/a>14<\/a>, about 75 yards from the initial one.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t
