Philadelphia is now one of the top 10 VC markets in the world, according to PitchBook.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The region ranked No. 10 in this year\u2019s PitchBook Global VC Ecosystem Rankings<\/a>, which scores global and national markets for venture capital activity.\u00a0<\/p>\n The report\u2019s overall ranking is broken down into a development score and a growth score, which is determined by deal, exit and fund activity from Q4 2019 to Q3 2025. It adds to the list of top rankings the city has gotten this year such as ranking No. 13<\/a> in the 2025 Global Startup Ecosystem report from Startup Genome.\u00a0<\/p>\n Philadelphia\u2019s rise in rankings is partially thanks to its strong growth score, which highlights markets that have gained momentum. Philly ranked seventh for growth over six years.\u00a0<\/p>\n The region\u2019s development score also made the top 20. This number comes from analysis of the market\u2019s maturity, looking at late-stage investments, investor count and unicorn count.\u00a0<\/p>\n Philly also made it into the top 20 markets for SaaS, fintech and healthcare company activity. The market ranked No. 11 in healthcare, which isn\u2019t surprising given its positive reputation in life sciences.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n The timeline considered for this score includes Philly\u2019s best year for deal activity in 2021<\/a>, when the region pulled in $8 billion across almost 400 deals. Even though the numbers have come down since then, there is still more activity here than there was 10 years ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n This recognition comes after a mixed year for Philadelphia VC. The region saw its worst quarter in five years during Q2<\/a>, but bounced back in Q3<\/a>. Macroeconomic factors like changing policy made investors more cautious and likely to spend extra time vetting potential investments.\u00a0<\/p>\n
