BENSALEM, Pa. (WPVI) — The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office has announced additional charges against a man who was shot by a police officer<\/a> following a road rage incident earlier this month.<\/p>\n

Investigators say 44-year-old John Mathis<\/a>, of Levittown, pulled up to a car and pointed a gun at a driver on Aug. 2.<\/p>\n

Officers say Mathis followed the vehicle on his motorcycle through Bensalem before police arrived and intervened.<\/p>\n

Police opened fire when Mathis allegedly refused to drop his weapon. He was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds and has since been released.<\/p>\n

A black 9mm pistol was recovered at the scene. Authorities later determined the firearm was not registered to Mathis.<\/p>\n

Officials say Mathis was also wanted in connection with a gunpoint robbery at a Metro by T-Mobile store in Northeast Philadelphia less than an hour before the confrontation in Bristol Township. Police estimate that about $1,000 was stolen during that robbery.<\/p>\n

According to the DA’s office, Mathis was already facing charges in Bucks County prior to the Aug. 2 incidents, including a road rage case from July 27.<\/p>\n

Mathis is facing a slew of charges in connection with the alleged road rage and prior robbery. The charges include robbery and theft by unlawful taking, prohibited possession of a firearm, firearms not to be carried without a license, receiving stolen property, terroristic threats, possession of a weapon, possession of an instrument of crime, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person.<\/p>\n

He was also charged with evading arrest or detention on foot, driving on a suspended license, reckless driving and driving an unregistered vehicle.<\/p>\n

Mathis, who is currently in Bucks County Correctional Facility, will be arraigned on Friday.<\/p>\n
