DUNMORE, Pa. \u2014 Penn State Scranton corporate communication students stepped out of the classroom and into the professional world during COMM Day, an interactive, student-led event designed to help participants gain real-world experience, build valuable skills and connect with industry experts.<\/p>\n
Interactive event prepares students for careers in corporate communication<\/p>\n
Hosted by Program Coordinator and Lecturer of Corporate Communication Kelly Conlon-Mazzucca\u2019s CC 490W students, the event offered a full lineup of hands-on activities, networking opportunities and expert-led sessions aimed at preparing students for careers in corporate communication.<\/p>\n
Throughout the day, students participated in professional headshot sessions, experienced virtual reality demonstrations and completed a social media scavenger hunt designed to sharpen their digital storytelling skills. They also had opportunities to network with faculty, peers and industry professionals.<\/p>\n
Two keynote speakers headlined the event<\/p>\n
Karen Freberg, professor of strategic communications at the University of Louisville, executive director and founder of the Bird\u2019s Nest Student Agency, and author, spoke about personal branding and navigating today\u2019s fast-paced social media environment.<\/p>\n
Penn State alumna Morgan Sewack, a marketing and communications specialist and adjunct lecturer of corporate communication at Penn State Scranton, led an interactive workshop on content creation. She showed students how to produce and edit engaging short-form videos and offered practical tips they can apply to internships and professional roles. COMM Day also included a corporate communication faculty Q&A with Conlon-Mazzucca and Assistant Professor of Corporate Communication Stephanie Longo, who gave students a chance to engage directly with program leaders and learn more about academic and career pathways within the field.<\/p>\n
Students said the experience was both informative and inspiring.<\/p>\n
