The Allentown School Board re-elected its president and vice president Thursday as four new members joined the board.<\/p>\n
Andrene Brown-Nowell will continue as president and Audrey Mathison will continue as vice president on the new board. Their terms end in 2027, along with returning board members Zaleeae Sierra and Ana Tiburcio. Nick Nicholoff\u2019s election win extends his term to 2027 as well.<\/p>\n
Brown-Nowell thanked the board for their continued trust in her leadership.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am really, really grateful for that,\u201d Brown-Nowell said. \u201cI do not take it lightly.\u201d<\/p>\n
Allentown Superintendent Carol Birks welcomed the new board members, saying they were assuming \u201ca calling.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a collective team, it\u2019s going to take the strengths of all of us to continue to highlight all that Allentown has to offer,\u201d Birks said.<\/p>\n
The new board members seated Thursday bring diverse experiences to the board:<\/p>\n
Evette D\u2019Amore is an office manager for EG Electric Co., a \u201cmom and pop\u201d electrical contractor in Allentown. She is an advocate for students with special needs, including her two sons in the district. She\u2019s been an Allentown homeowner since 2003.<\/p>\n
Cereta Johnson is a Dieruff High School graduate and a mother of two. She opened Children of Joy Christian Academy in 2019, offering child care and early childhood education in east Allentown. Johnson has a foundation focused on international missionary work, and she helps organize Allentown\u2019s Juneteenth celebrations. She\u2019s been an Allentown resident for 26 years and is the owner of multiple commercial properties.<\/p>\n
Dianne Michels is a licensed professional counselor who holds a master\u2019s degree in clinical psychology and counseling from Chestnut Hill College. Michels held a special education teaching position for three years and has also taught homebound children, worked with gifted children and volunteered as a reading teacher. She was born with legal blindness and is an advocate for children and adults with disabilities.<\/p>\n
Denzel Morris is a software engineer, most recently at Google, who was born and raised on Allentown\u2019s East Side. He graduated from the Swain School.
