EXETER TWP. Pa. \u2013 Red lights, fire trucks and a line of excited kids walking into Boscov\u2019s in Exeter Township.<\/p>\n
Thursday night marked the return of \u201cShop with a Firefighter.\u201d Twenty students from the Exeter Township School District were each paired with a firefighter for a special evening of holiday shopping.<\/p>\n
\u201cTonight is one of the best nights of the year,\u201d said Jim Boscov, chairman and CEO of Boscov\u2019s.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat amazes me on a night like tonight is the kids are not shopping for themselves,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019re going to shop for their brothers, their sisters, their mothers and their fathers.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event is a partnership between Boscov\u2019s and the Exeter Township Volunteer Fire Department.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor years, the police did \u2018Shop with a Cop,\u2019 and we said, \u2018Well, why don\u2019t we do it with a firefighter?\u2019\u201d said Fire Chief Chris Jordan. \u201cAbout 15 years ago, some of our members put together a committee, and we started a \u2018Shop with a Firefighter\u2019 event, and we\u2019ve been doing it ever since.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lt. Steve Begley was shopping with Aliyah on Thursday.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis has to be my favorite community event,\u201d Begley said. \u201cThe kids usually have a list to shop for their family\u2026and it\u2019s a lot of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
Aliyah was ready.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got my dad, my sister, my brother and my mom,\u201d she said about her shopping list.<\/p>\n
From toy, to clothes, to one special surprise \u2014 it\u2019s a night that wouldn\u2019t be complete without a certain someone.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a special visitor,\u201d Boscov added. \u201cSanta Claus came all the way from the North Pole, and he\u2019s going to be visiting with the kids as well.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"EXETER TWP.
