\u201cSolace: Photographs by Jane Noel,\u201d an exhibition of comforting nighttime landscapes, continues with a closing reception 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. Dec. 10, Ronald K. De Long Gallery, Penn State Lehigh Valley, Upper Saucon Township.<\/p>\n
\u201cI photograph my home place on South Mountain. Since moving there seven years ago, it has been my sanctuary,\u201d says Noel.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter years of care-taking and witness, I began a conversation with the trees and land. They are my teachers and solace in these troubled times.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Upper Saucon Township-based artist studied photography as an undergraduate:<\/p>\n
\u201cI started out very much analog and I used a view camera for a number of years. I still love that process, but now I\u2019m digital.\u201d Working in the digital format, Noel prints her work on a large-format printer.<\/p>\n
Noel\u2019s \u201cUntitled\u201d (2023; archival pigment print, 32 in. x 48 in,), as with her other works in the exhibition, captures the stillness of nighttime with silhouettes of trees and plant life emerging in the misty glow of illumination.<\/p>\n
A former lecturer in information science and technology at The Pennsylvania State University, Noel received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Vermont College of Fine Arts, Master of Arts from George Washington University and Bachelor of Arts from Moravian University<\/p>\n
