{"id":52877,"date":"2025-12-05T09:43:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-05T09:43:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/52877\/"},"modified":"2025-12-05T09:43:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T09:43:11","slug":"one-side-parking-on-some-streets-mulled-to-assist-snowplowing-lehigh-valley-press","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/52877\/","title":{"rendered":"One-side parking on some streets mulled to assist snowplowing \u2013 Lehigh Valley Press"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__body\">Banning vehicular parking on one side of a street to assist public works department snowplowing crews is under consideration in Salisbury Township.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">A plan for restricted parking during snowplowing was discussed at the Nov. 25 Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners\u2019 workshop. No action was taken since it was a workshop. The Nov. 25 commissioners\u2019 meeting was canceled. Before the workshop, which began 7 p.m., commissioners held a 6 p.m. executive session.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cOn a few streets in winter, we\u2019re having trouble getting our trucks through,\u201d Salisbury Township Director, Public Works Department, Jim Levernier said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Under consideration by township commissioners is an ordinance that would limit parking to one side along certain streets, possibly from Nov. 30 through March. Signs would be placed along the streets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cThis is going to be a permanent thing,\u201d Salisbury Township Manager Cathy Gorman said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Levernier said he would consult with the Salisbury Township Police Department in choosing the streets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cAnd I\u2019ll talk to the guys who plow the streets,\u201d Levernier said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">An ordinance for snowplowing parking restrictions is expected to be on the agenda of an upcoming commissioners\u2019 meeting. Upon passage of the ordinance, it would require 60 days until it went into effect.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Also discussed during the workshop was the possible regulation of artificial intelligence data centers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cIt\u2019s probably something we should address sooner than later,\u201d Gorman said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cIs a data center in Salisbury possible?\u201d Commissioner Alex Karol asked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cIf you don\u2019t have it in [your ordinance], they could put it anywhere,\u201d Gorman said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cJust to be on the safe side, so that we don\u2019t open up for challenges,\u201d Salisbury Township Planning &amp; Zoning Officer and Floodplain Administrator Kerry Rabold said, in her supporting the regulation of data centers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cMost of the industrial [zoned] land is built up,\u201d Rabold said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cThe issues are the resources they [data centers] use,\u201d Rabold said, referring to water and electricity use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners\u2019 President Debra J. Brinton asked about the use of utilities by data centers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cThey have to propose it to the utilities and for water,\u201d Rabold replied.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cThere\u2019s also some other zoning uses that we might want to address,\u201d Gorman said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Rabold said another ordinance that needs to be looked at is that which regulates fast-food restaurants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cWe have the ordinance that fast-food restaurants can\u2019t be more than 300 feet from each other,\u201d Rabold said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cMy recommendation is to allow fast-food and convenience stores in C1 and C2 [zoning] for Cedar Crest, South Pike and sections along Susquehanna and Emmaus Avenue,\u201d Rabold said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cI think it would be good for the township to move ahead [with ordinance changes} rather than wait two years [for completion of the new township comprehensive plan],\u201d Rabold said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cWe could use it for our tax base,\u201d Commissioner Heather Lipkin said of new commercial enterprises.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cI think it\u2019s time to think about acting on other income,\u201d Commissioner Alok Patnaik said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cI think our discussion [should be] ways we can get revenue,\u201d Salisbury Township Director of Finance Paul Ziegenfus said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Ziegenfus said there are no changes in the 2026 Salisbury Township budget, which is on the agenda for approval at the next commissioners\u2019 meeting, 7 p.m. Dec. 11, in the meeting room of the municipal building, 2900 S.
