The Lehigh Valley<\/a> is set to lose another Staples store right after the holiday season.<\/p>\n

Staples<\/a> has announced it will close on Jan. 2 at 2180 MacArthur Road in Whitehall Township<\/a>, a store employee who answered the phone Friday morning confirmed.<\/p>\n

Currently, much of the retailer\u2019s merchandise at the Whitehall location has been slashed up to 30%. This includes the majority of inventory with the exception of electronics and ink and toner products, the employee said.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear if another retail tenant is poised to move into the space. Whitehall Mayor Joseph J. Marx Jr. and Deputy Mayor John D. Meyers couldn\u2019t immediately be reached for more details, nor could a Staples spokesperson.<\/p>\n

Framingham, Massachusetts-based Staples has more than 1,000 stores in 44 states. It currently has 54 statewide locations and another 53 stores in New Jersey.<\/p>\n

Regionally, there are sites at the Southmont Plaza, 4403 Birkland Place in Bethlehem Township; 2138 W. Union Blvd. in Bethlehem; South Mall, 3300 Lehigh St. in Salisbury Township; 4628 Broadway in South Whitehall; and in Hackettstown, Warren County, according to the chain\u2019s locator map.<\/a><\/p>\n

The major big-box retailer is known for its brand-name electronics and print services, as well as office supplies and furniture.<\/p>\n

Staples in March 2017 faced financial challenges, announcing the closure of roughly 70 stores nationally. That\u2019s when it shuttered its Greenwich Center location in Greenwich Township just off Route 22 in December 2017.<\/p>\n

The closure of the Staples location at Northampton Crossings Shopping Center in Lower Nazareth<\/a> followed in November 2024.<\/p>\n

Bob\u2019s Discount Furniture has since taken over the Lower Nazareth space,<\/a> while the Greenwich Township space was taken over by a Ross Dress for Less store.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Lehigh Valley is set to lose another Staples store right after the holiday season.
