However, that doesn\u2019t mean the two sides won\u2019t go in opposite directions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">According to Adam Schefter, 2027 is an option year on Tomlin\u2019s contract, and the Steelers must decide if they will pick up that option before the new league year begins in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cAfter this season, Tomlin\u2019s contract will have two years remaining &#8212; 2026 and a team option in 2027,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/47222043\/sources-steelers-decide-mike-tomlin-option-march\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Schefter writes<\/a>. \u201cBut according to league sources, the Steelers must decide whether to pick up the option on Tomlin\u2019s contract by March 1.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Schefter continues by saying that if the Steelers don\u2019t pick up the option, that would bring many other options into play.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cIf the Steelers decline to pick up Tomlin\u2019s option, they would allow their head coach to enter the final year of his contract next season, which teams typically prefer not to do,\u201d Schefter writes. \u201cAnd if neither side has any commitment to the other beyond 2026, it would bring into play several options.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">At 6-6, the Steelers host the Baltimore Ravens in a game that will determine who sits in first place in the AFC North going into Week 15.
