BIRDSBORO, Pa. – Families got the chance to travel back to the 18th Century to experience what Christmas was like 300 years ago.<\/p>\n
It was all thanks to the Daniel Boone Homestead Association.<\/p>\n
Visitors learned about English and Pennsylvania German holiday celebrations, listened to the Homestead Carolers and took in all sorts of Christmas traditions.<\/p>\n
“And a lot of our Christmas traditions today come from the Germans and Pennsylvania Germans, things like the Christmas tree, so we have a lovely cedar tree in the parlor, and the Belsnickel was the Pennsylvania German version of Santa Claus so he’s here,” said Amanda Machik, museum director of the Homestead.\u00a0<\/p>\n
