\n The 24-year-old left-back has been absent from the Reading squad since he picked up an injury during the Royals 2-3 defeat to Carlisle United in November, which would see Reading out of the FA Cup.\n<\/p>\n
\n Last week the club released their photo for the class of 25\/26 with keen eye observers noting that the loanee was omitted from the line-up. This casted doubt as to whether the left-back had his loan with the club cut short.\n<\/p>\n
\n When Reading boss Richardson was asked about the reason for Jacob’s absence he said: “Matty obviously picked the injury up on the Carlisle game.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Quite a severe injury, so obviously with Hull being the parent club, they wanted him back there to have a look at him and maintain the early stages of his rehab.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Obviously, it just coincided with, unfortunately, we had the photograph on the same day, so that was the only reason he wasn’t on it.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Matty Jacob has played 16 games so far this season in the blue and white, picking up four bookings.\n<\/p>\n
\n The Hull City loanee made eight appearances for the Tigers last term, scoring on one occasion, in a 3-0 victory at Sheffield United in January.\n<\/p>\n
\n 2024\/25 initially saw first team minutes few and far between under boss Tim Walter, that was until former Royals boss Rub\u00e9n Sell\u00e9s was appointed Manager at the MKM Stadium. He would go on to make eight appearances under the Spaniards stewardship.\n<\/p>\n
\n Although his entire career has seen him contracted to Hull City, Matty and his family do have a pre-existing link with Reading.\n<\/p>\n
\n Just over 50 years ago on the 22nd February 1975, Matty’s Grandfather Geoff Barker pulled on the blue and white hoops to make his debut for the Biscuitmen.
