Shapiro called it the tallest tree to adorn the rotunda in more than a decade.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want you to know it just fills my heart with joy,\u201d Shapiro said. \u201cIt reminds me I\u2019m part of a broader community, and I think it puts a smile on people\u2019s faces.\u201d<\/p>\n
Shapiro is the first Jewish governor of Pennsylvania. He and his family have continued the tradition of decorating the Governor\u2019s Residence for Christmas.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile our family celebrates Hanukkah this time of year, it was really important to us to continue the tradition of transforming the governor\u2019s residence into a home filled with Christmas cheer,\u201d Lori Shapiro said. \u201cChristmas brings joy and we love being a part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Central Dauphin High School Choir sang, and Rev. Anjel Scarborough, rector of All Saints Episcopal Church in Hershey, provided an invocation.<\/p>\n
Scarborough began by noting the \u201cchallenges\u201d 2025 has brought \u2014\u00a0uncertainty, polarization, and violence. That included the firebombing of the governor\u2019s residence on the Jewish Passover holiday in April, which was not mentioned directly.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn a season with these kinds of challenges, it\u2019s important to lean into two things,\u201d she said. \u201cThe power of hope and the necessity of courage.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lt. Gov. Austin Davis also spoke, imploring Pennsylvanians to be kind to those, regardless of their faith, who may be alone, struggling or grieving through the holidays.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s the true spirit of Christmas,\u201d he said. \u201cI hope you all will join me in that spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n
Scarborough ended the ceremony with a reading of the Franciscan Benediction.<\/p>\n
