READING, PA. – The United Way of Berks County is sealing its legacy in the region.<\/p>\n
The non-profit is closing out its 100th anniversary year by planning for the next 100 years.<\/p>\n
The Berks County Commissioners and the United Way gathered for a special time capsule ceremony today.<\/p>\n
They buried a capsule filled with mementos and letters from current volunteers to the next generation.<\/p>\n
Organizers say no matter what changes over time, the mission will always remain.<\/p>\n
“This sense of that we are better as a community when we collectively work to make everybody’s life better and and great and help healthy, happy and, you know, just in a really good place,” said Tammy White, president of United Way Berks County.<\/p>\n
As part of the 100th year celebration, The United Way also planted a white oak tree in the spring and honored the memory of Irv Evans, one of United Way’s longest-serving volunteers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"READING, PA. – The United Way of Berks County is sealing its legacy in the region.
