Authorities are continuing to investigate a weekend incident where a 27-year-old man allegedly fled from police, striking two troopers, then died<\/a> in a crash.<\/p>\n

Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio on Monday identified the driver as Cristian F. Jimenez, of Allentown. <\/p>\n

After an autopsy Monday, Buglio said Jimenez died of blunt-force traumatic injuries from the crash. The coroner ruled the death an accident.<\/p>\n

Pennsylvania State Police in a news release Sunday detailed the incident that led to the crash shortly after midnight Saturday.<\/p>\n

Troopers with state police at Fogelsville around 12:13 a.m. Sunday attempted to stop a 1999 Ford F-150 in Allentown, but the driver initially failed to pull over, the release states.<\/p>\n

With police in pursuit, the pickup truck stopped in the area of Lehigh Street and 29th Street Southwest in the city. As troopers exited their patrol vehicle and tried to take the driver into custody, he struck them with his vehicle \u201cin an attempt to cause serious bodily injury\u201d and fled, police said.<\/p>\n

The troopers were able to get back in their vehicle and resume pursuing the pickup. The fleeing driver then lost control in the area of Vultee and South 12th streets in Allentown. He crashed into a fire hydrant, utility pole and building in the 1800 block of South 12th Street.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe force of the impact resulted in Mr. Jimenez being ejected from the vehicle,\u201d Buglio said in a news release Monday. <\/p>\n

Troopers immediately rendered medical assistance to the driver, and both he and the two troopers who were struck were taken by Allentown EMS to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest for treatment of their injuries. <\/p>\n

Jimenez was pronounced dead at 12:45 a.m. Sunday in the emergency department at the hospital in Salisbury Township, according to the coroner\u2019s office. <\/p>\n

Both troopers were treated and released.<\/p>\n

The incident is being investigated by the coroner\u2019s office, state police Troop M Major Case Team and Lehigh County District Attorney\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
