JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) \u2014 A citizen of Honduras was sentenced to federal prison after being found in Pennsylvania after already racking up three deportations out of the U.S.<\/p>\n
First Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced the sentencing of 67-year-old Jose Mejia-Sarmiento. A sentencing that will see the Honduran serve 39 months in a federal prison before being deported based on his conviction of illegal reentry by a removed alien and fraudulent use of a Social Security number.<\/p>\n
Mejia-Sarmiento was recently found in western Pennsylvania, despite being removed from the U.S. three times between 1996 and 2016, according to information presented to the court.<\/p>\n
Mejia-Sarmiento also made false statements to the Social Security Administration on at least four different occasions in 2024 and 2025 by using the ID of another person, Rivetti added.<\/p>\n
