State Representative Ryan Bizzarro announced today that more than $1.1 million in state grants will be directed to Erie County to strengthen public safety, support crime victims, and enhance local justice system services. The funding, approved by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, will help victims recover, assist children impacted by crime, and reimburse the county for key probation and parole programs.<\/p>\n
\u201cI worked closely with victims and saw firsthand how essential it is that they are truly heard and connected with the support and programs they need to rebuild their lives,\u201d said Bizzarro, a former victim\/witness advocate for the Erie County District Attorney\u2019s Office. \u201cThese investments will strengthen public safety by addressing the needs of victims, law enforcement, and the professionals working every day to keep our communities safe.\u201d<\/p>\n
The grants total $1,142,552. With $435,253 for Erie County\u2019s Adult Probation and Parole Grant Program to reimburse counties for probation and parole services. $257,300 for the Crime Victim Center of Erie County to ensure victims receive all protections and services under the law. $250,000 for Intermediate Punishment and Treatment Programs, including electronic monitoring, intensive supervision, and treatment services.<\/p>\n
$149,999 for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Erie County to provide Mental Health First Aid training focused on crisis de-escalation and firearm suicide prevention. $50,000 for the Children\u2019s Advocacy Center of Erie County to sustain core services for child abuse victims and support long-term planning and program expansion.<\/p>\n
Today\u2019s announcement continues Bizzarro\u2019s efforts to bring state resources to local projects.
