SCRANTON, Pa. \u2014 It’s not something new to see snow this season in Scranton.<\/p>\n
“It’s not anything we\u2019re prepared for; it’s nothing we can’t handle. Now, if the snow was five feet tall, that might be a different scenario. But I think we can deal with this,\u201d said Tom Gallagher of Scranton.<\/p>\n
But what do you get when you add wet snow and freezing temperatures? Icy road conditions.<\/p>\n
“I think the best thing you do is stock up and be prepared to stay home, stay off the roads unless you have to,\u201d said Gallagher.<\/p>\n
“Making sure they’re staying home, unless they absolutely positively have to, you know, same old stuff,\u201d said John Lona of Scranton.<\/p>\n
Over the next few days, temperatures are going to be below freezing.<\/p>\n
“I don’t have any plans on going any place, especially with that forecast. Welcome to Northeastern Pennsylvania,\u201d said Lona.<\/p>\n
Given the ice in the forecast, some folks are preparing extra.<\/p>\n
“I just bought two twenty-pound bags of Qik Joe’s so, and I have rock salt in the garage, so I’m ready to start spreading it first thing in the morning,\u201d said Sarai McAndrew of Scranton.<\/p>\n
A manager at the Scranton Department of Public Works says roughly 500 tons of salt will be dispersed on roads, and 15 trucks are going to be working around the clock. But still, they say it’s important for drivers to remain vigilant in the next coming days.<\/p>\n
“I’ve got a Ford Flex with good tires; the important thing is to have your car ready for winter conditions. If you moved here from, say ‘Southern New Jersey,’ god bless you,\u201d said McAndrew.<\/p>\n
But with all this snow, there’s an upside.<\/p>\n
“The holiday’s coming, White Christmas, ski mountains are open, might as well enjoy the snow with the winter and embrace it.
