\u201cFamilies are always looking for something to do together during the holidays and our Pops concert is the perfect event to share with the whole family,\u201d says Diane Wittry, Allentown Symphony Orchestra Music Director and Conductor.<\/p>\n
Allentown Symphony Orchestra (ASO) presents its annual \u201cHoliday Pops\u201d concert, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 20, Miller Symphony Hall, Allentown.<\/p>\n
Now in its fourth year, the concert has a line-up of local and international talent.<\/p>\n
Emcee is Jaciel C\u00f3rdoba, television news anchor, WFMZ-TV.<\/p>\n
The ASO sets the stage for the concert with Don Sebesky\u2019s \u201cA Christmas Scherzo,\u201d a medley of well-known traditional carols of France, England and Germany.<\/p>\n
The concert\u2019s first-half includes vocalist Alli Mauzey of \u201cWicked\u201d fame, performing holiday favorites such as \u201cIt\u2019s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,\u201d \u201cThe Christmas Song\u201d and \u201cHave Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,\u201d as well as \u201cLet it Go\u201d from \u201cFrozen\u201d and \u201cPopular\u201d from \u201cWicked.\u201d<\/p>\n
She is joined by the El Sistema Lehigh Valley Chorus in \u201cSanta Will Find You\u201d and the Church of the Mediator Chorus in \u201cO Holy Night.\u201d<\/p>\n
Interspersed are performances by members of the Accent School of Dance, El Sistema Chorus singing \u201cSomewhere in My Memory\u201d from \u201cHome Alone\u201d and the ASO in the Bob Krogstad arrangement of \u201cChristmas at the Movies.\u201d<\/p>\n
After intermission, the ASO opens with Tchaikovsky\u2019s \u201cPolonaise\u201d from \u201cEugene Onegin\u201d followed by \u201cASO Community Spotlight\u201d vocalist Kendal Conrad singing \u201cAll I Want for Christmas is You.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Emmaus High School Chorale is the \u201cASO Spotlight Chorus\u201d for \u201cWe Need a Little Christmas,\u201d \u201cHanukah Fantasy\u201d and \u201c12 Days of Christmas.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mauzey returns for \u201c12 Days After Christmas\u201d and \u201cSanta Claus is Comin\u2019 to Town.\u201d<\/p>\n
The ASO chimes in with Leroy Anderson\u2019s popular \u201cBugler\u2019s Holiday\u201d and Gene Autry\u2019s \u201cHere Comes Santa Claus.\u201d<\/p>\n
The concert closes with \u201cJingle All the Way,\u201d an audience sing-a-long led by the Emmaus Chorale and El Sistema Chorus.<\/p>\n
Says Wittry with a smile, \u201cWith a cast of over 100 musicians, vocalists and dancers, you no longer have to go to New York City or Philadelphia for an orchestral concert to put you in the holiday spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jaciel C\u00f3rdoba, who anchors \u201c69 News at Sunrise\u201d and \u201c69 News at Noon,\u201d is an Emmy Award winner for the station\u2019s 2020 General Election coverage . He appeared in \u201cThe Color Purple\u201d at Civic Theatre of Allentown.<\/p>\n
Alli Mauzey has appeared on Broadway as Glinda in \u201cWicked,\u201d Pattie in \u201cKimberly Akimbo,\u201d and in \u201cHairspray,\u201d \u201cCry-Baby\u201d and \u201cHello, Dolly!\u201d She has sung with the Philly Pops, Nashville Symphony and Minnesota Orchestra.<\/p>\n
Kendal Conrad has appeared on MTV, performed at the White House, Hersheypark, and Musikfest. She starred in \u201cBreakfast at Tiffany\u2019s\u201d at Civic Theatre of Allentown.<\/p>\n
The Emmaus High School Chorale, directed by Julie Zimmer, is the premier varsity mixed choir at Emmaus High School.<\/p>\n
The Choir of the Mediator, directed by Anthony Hahn, is an intergenerational church choir based in Allentown.<\/p>\n
The El Sistema Lehigh Valley Choir, under the direction of Choral Director Amanda Haag, provides daily instrumental and choir instruction, academic tutoring to more than 120 students from more than 20 Lehigh Valley schools.<\/p>\n
Allentown-based Accent School of Dance, directed by Karen Rich, is celebrating 30 years of dance education.<\/p>\n
