ALLENTOWN, Pa.- Snow is arriving Saturday night, with several inches possible by Sunday morning, and throughout the day, people across the area were getting ready.<\/p>\n
At grocery stores, shoppers made last-minute stops to prepare for the storm.<\/p>\n
\u201cI literally was doing some other shopping, and then I was like, okay, I need some groceries,\u201d said Stacy Vasquez of Allentown. \u201cBut yes, it\u2019s cold right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
Others said once the snow starts falling, they plan to stay put.<\/p>\n
\u201cI stay home. I don\u2019t go nowhere,\u201d said Socorro of Allentown.<\/p>\n
Some residents made sure they had everything they needed to avoid going out Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m getting ready for the storm,\u201d said Conroy Blair, from Bethelehem. \u201cI went to Home Depot. I got some salt, got a shovel, picked up snacks for the kids and some juice.\u201d<\/p>\n
PennDOT says crews were already out pre-treating major roadways Friday and Saturday using liquid salt brine to help prevent snow and ice from bonding to the pavement.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe moisture evaporates and leaves a film of salt on the road surface,\u201d said PennDOT District 5 Press Officer Ron Young.<\/p>\n
Snow is expected to fall mainly overnight, when most people are sleeping, creating the worst travel conditions late Saturday into early Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnce it starts to accumulate, our trucks will be out plowing and putting down salt as needed,\u201d Young said.<\/p>\n
By Sunday morning, strong winds and arctic air could lead to blowing snow and icy spots.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven though the road looks wet, it could actually be black ice,\u201d Young said. \u201cIf you\u2019re going to drive, use extra caution.\u201d<\/p>\n
