While they vary in tone and content, they all have ties to the Philadelphia region through their authors, subject matter or both. We&#8217;ve grouped them together according to their ideal recipient:<\/p>\n<p>For the history nerd<\/p>\n<p>CNN anchor and Queen Village native Jake Tapper takes on a recent chapter in American history with his book &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.phillyvoice.com\/jake-tapper-race-against-terror-trump-extremism-spin-ghul-case\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Race Against Terror<\/a>.&#8221; It recounts the trial of al-Qaeda operative Spin Ghul, the first\u00a0person tried in U.S. criminal court for killing American service members on a foreign battlefield (<a data-original-title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/p\/books\/race-against-terror-chasing-an-al-qaeda-killer-at-the-dawn-of-the-forever-war-jake-tapper\/c2c9e78cabf3fc02\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Buy it here<\/a>.) It covers everything from the earliest settlers&#8217; treaties with Indigenous tribes to the garbage barge that roved the seas in the 1980s to the rise of scrapple.
