{"id":61417,"date":"2025-12-15T15:22:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-15T15:22:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/61417\/"},"modified":"2025-12-15T15:22:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-15T15:22:08","slug":"lights-in-the-parkway-walk-through-event-still-on-after-vandalism-to-allentown-light-display","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/61417\/","title":{"rendered":"Lights in the Parkway walk-through event still on, after vandalism to Allentown light display"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The vandalism at Allentown\u2019s Lights in the Parkway that prompted its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcall.com\/2025\/12\/14\/vandalism-causes-temporary-closure-of-lights-in-the-parkway\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">closure over the weekend is estimated to be<\/a> over $50,000, according to officials.<\/p>\n<p>City spokesperson Genesis Ortega said the damage caused by the vandalism \u2014 which included bent light poles and posts, crushed light bulbs and portable restrooms pushed into a creek \u2014 is likely closer to $100,000.<\/p>\n<p>The damage prompted the city to close the event Sunday, however it will reopen Monday for its walkthrough event, Ortega said. She said Monday morning that staff is currently working to clean up and rearrange the displays.<\/p>\n<p>It has not yet been determined when the display will reopen for vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Additional information is expected to be released later Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Matt Tuerk, in a video posted on social media Sunday, said 90% of the lights are in \u201cgreat shape,\u201d and said it would be expensive to repair and replace the lights.
