{"id":61699,"date":"2025-12-15T21:40:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-15T21:40:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/61699\/"},"modified":"2025-12-15T21:40:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-15T21:40:08","slug":"garden-path-property-damaged-from-hit-and-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/61699\/","title":{"rendered":"Garden Path property damaged from hit-and-run"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SCRANTON \u2014 When a truck barreled through the fence at the Garden Path, it brought an early end to the Christmas tree shopping season and left the business with a hefty repair bill.<\/p>\n<p>A Champagne-colored Chevrolet Silverado single cab drove through the fence of the property, 1635 Nay Aug Ave., on Dec. 9 around 12:45 p.m., before fleeing the scene, said Kelly Mullarkey, who was inside the business with her husband, Joseph Genovese, the son of owner Sue Genovese, when the incident occurred.<\/p>\n<p>While they have become accustomed to loud commotions from the nearby Green Ridge Street bridge replacement project, Mullarkey noted Joseph Genovese sensed the noise was closer Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hear noise all day long, so I didn\u2019t think anything of it,\u201d Mullarkey said. \u201cMy husband said, \u2018No, that doesn\u2019t sound right.\u2019 I ran out and the guy was literally through the fence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A truck pulled down lights and caused thousands of dollars...\" class=\"size-article_inline\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/STT-L-GARDEN-2-1216.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>A truck pulled down lights and caused thousands of dollars of damage at The Garden Path along Nay Aug Avenue in Scranton. (ROBERT TOMKAVAGE\/STAFF PHOTO)\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\" class=\"icon-enlarge mng-gallery-fullscreen-expand\" aria-label=\"Expand fullscreen slideshow\">Expand<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The driver \u2014 a male \u2014 pulled down strings of lights that got caught on his windshield, knocked a post off a concrete pole, and then sped away before anyone could get his registration information, Mullarkey said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were both on the phone with 911, and I was just in shock,\u201d she added. \u201cI didn\u2019t even think to take videos or photos, or anything, and his tailgate flew down so we couldn\u2019t get a good make of his license plate. When we saw the tire marks, it looked like he was coming straight through from the Giant. I hope he\u2019s held accountable. I just don\u2019t know what he was doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jerry Genovese, husband of owner Sue Genovese, estimates the incident caused about $5,000 worth of damage. He said he was shocked by the occurrence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNever in your wildest dreams would you think that would happen,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mullarkey stressed the incident impacted her emotional well-being and feels fortunate the driver didn\u2019t crash through the fence at a different time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust the day before, we had a bunch of trees left,\u201d she said. \u201cI was shaking for like two days \u2014 people bring their kids to pick out trees \u2014 God forbid if there were little ones running along.
