The driver \u2014 a male \u2014 pulled down strings of lights that got caught on his windshield, knocked a post off a concrete pole, and then sped away before anyone could get his registration information, Mullarkey said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were both on the phone with 911, and I was just in shock,\u201d she added. \u201cI didn\u2019t even think to take videos or photos, or anything, and his tailgate flew down so we couldn\u2019t get a good make of his license plate. When we saw the tire marks, it looked like he was coming straight through from the Giant. I hope he\u2019s held accountable. I just don\u2019t know what he was doing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jerry Genovese, husband of owner Sue Genovese, estimates the incident caused about $5,000 worth of damage. He said he was shocked by the occurrence.<\/p>\n
\u201cNever in your wildest dreams would you think that would happen,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mullarkey stressed the incident impacted her emotional well-being and feels fortunate the driver didn\u2019t crash through the fence at a different time.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust the day before, we had a bunch of trees left,\u201d she said. \u201cI was shaking for like two days \u2014 people bring their kids to pick out trees \u2014 God forbid if there were little ones running along. I\u2019m so grateful that no one got hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Garden Path doesn\u2019t have cameras, and crews working on the bridge project told an officer they didn\u2019t see anything, Mullarkey said.<\/p>\n
While the Garden Path hasn\u2019t experienced damage rivaling Tuesday\u2019s incident throughout more than 40 years in business, Jerry Genovese has seen some other problems, including people stealing Christmas trees and cemetery pots, and breaking through the fence to attempt to remove valuable parts from vehicles.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have two old trucks that we just use for storage,\u201d he said. \u201cThey would cut the fence, and come in, so finally I put a sign up that said the catalytic converters are gone.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite those instances, Jerry Genovese stated the community has been good to the business during the past four decades.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of our customers stopped in to see how we were doing,\u201d he said. \u201cThere are still a lot of good people in Scranton.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, the bridge replacement project and a sewer tank project near the Garden Path have hampered sales during 2025, Jerry Genovese said.<\/p>\n
