Zachary Reber, a Schuylkill County resident, has been named Pennsylvania\u2019s Secretary of the Budget.<\/p>\n
Gov. Josh Shapiro recently announced the appointment, which became effective on Dec. 15.<\/p>\n
Reber had been deputy secretary for fiscal policy and program coordination in the Office of the Budget.<\/p>\n
He succeeds Uri Monson, who stepped down to become executive director of the Pennsylvania Public School Employees Retirement System (PSERS).<\/p>\n
In his new position, Reber will oversee the preparation and implementation of the state\u2019s budget, which is $50.1 billion for 2025-2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am thankful to Gov. Shapiro for the opportunity to serve the Commonwealth as Secretary of the Budget,\u201d Reber said in a press release from the governor\u2019s office. \u201cIt\u2019s an honor to serve in this new role where we are going to continue to be good shepherds of Pennsylvania\u2019s resources.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reber resides with his spouse and two daughters in the Schuylkill Haven area.<\/p>\n
With his two brothers, he is a fourth generation farmer.<\/p>\n
A graduate of Alvernia University, where he majored in political science, Reber has held various roles with the state in the last decade.<\/p>\n
He began his career with the state in the Department of Revenue in 2012.<\/p>\n
He served as special assistant to Department of Community and Economic Development director Dennis Davin and helped oversee Gov. Tom Wolf\u2019s economic development program.<\/p>\n
He also served as executive director of the Keystone Economic Development and Workforce Command Center.<\/p>\n
Joining the Office of the Budget in 2021, was a special adviser to three budget secretaries.<\/p>\n
In his most recent position, Reber was liaison between the General Assembly and the Office of the Budget on legislation and regulatory matters.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Zachary Reber, a Schuylkill County resident, has been named Pennsylvania\u2019s Secretary of the Budget.
