Trump\u2019s order excludes three vague categories of AI legislation from potential prosecution: \u201cchild safety protections,\u201d those dealing with data centers and other AI infrastructure, and state governments\u2019 use of AI programs.<\/p>\n
The first carveout should shield Pennsylvania\u2019s law banning underage porn created with AI deepfake programs.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for state Sen. Tracy Pennycuick, R-Montgomery, who introduced that legislation, said she was not available for an interview on Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Pennycuick chairs the Communications & Technology Committee. She and her House counterpart, state Rep. Joe Ciresi, D-Montgomery, have for months opposed<\/a> the Trump administration\u2019s plan to ban state-level AI regulations.<\/p>\n Ciresi on Monday said he was glad to hear that Sunday would defend the state\u2019s enacted laws.<\/p>\n \u201cResidents are telling us, \u2018We want to see regulation on AI,\u2019 \u201d Ciresi said. \u201cThey\u2019re scared of it. They\u2019re scared of the things that could happen with AI.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Ciresi, who noted state lawmakers acted in the absence of clear federal regulations, said Pennsylvania legislators will not slow their efforts to further regulate AI, especially the technology\u2019s use in political campaigns heading into next year\u2019s midterm elections.\u00a0<\/p>\n Misinformation, Ciresi said, will spread quickly without any further restrictions.<\/p>\n \u201cTo have 50 different laws can be a problem in industry, and we don\u2019t want that,\u201d Ciresi said. \u201cBut we can\u2019t sit back and let nothing happen and (let) anyone do what they want to do.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
