{"id":62099,"date":"2025-12-16T07:18:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-16T07:18:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/62099\/"},"modified":"2025-12-16T07:18:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-16T07:18:08","slug":"cape-council-approves-first-reading-of-motion-for-tax-collection-agree","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/62099\/","title":{"rendered":"Cape council approves first reading of motion for tax collection agree&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-wisiwig-body1=\"true\" class=\"txtStyle_body1 mb_$body1\">The Cape Girardeau City Council approved, Monday, Dec. 15, the first reading of an ordinance executing an agreement with the City of Cape Girardeau and Scott County for tax collection services.<\/p>\n<p data-wisiwig-body1=\"true\" class=\"txtStyle_body1 mb_$body1\">Finance director Lisa Mills said at the council meeting that through the agreement, Scott County will levy and collect real estate and personal property taxes for properties within city limits and located in Scott County. She added that the ordinance is &#8220;simply&#8221; an extension of the cooperative agreement.<\/p>\n<p data-wisiwig-body1=\"true\" class=\"txtStyle_body1 mb_$body1\">&#8220;This contract is for one year, but it extends automatically, unless we terminate or rewrite the terms,&#8221; Mills said at the meeting.<\/p>\n<p data-wisiwig-body1=\"true\" class=\"txtStyle_body1 mb_$body1\">As a part of the agreement, the City agreed to pay the Scott County collector 2% of the total amount of taxes collected by the person for the city.
