(WOLF)  \u2014 More than $1.3 million in state funding is headed to community organizations across Lackawanna County as part of Pennsylvania\u2019s Neighborhood Assistance Program, state Rep. Bridget Kosierowski announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The grants, approved by the Department of Community and Economic Development, are designed to bolster projects that assist low-income residents, strengthen neighborhoods, and address long-standing social and economic challenges. The program offers businesses tax credits of up to 95% for contributing to eligible community initiatives, helping fuel public-private partnerships across the state.<\/p>\n<p>Kosierowski said the funding will have a substantial impact on residents facing issues such as blight, food insecurity, mental health struggles, domestic violence, and barriers to employment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks to NAP\u2019s tax credits, these public-private partnerships in Lackawanna County will address pressing socio-economic problems,\u201d she said. \u201cThis money will aid those in need and help build up our communities. I\u2019m grateful to the Shapiro administration for supporting our region, and I\u2019ll continue advocating for additional investment in our district.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Projects Receiving Funding<\/p>\n<p>A wide range of organizations will benefit from this year\u2019s awards, including:<\/p>\n<p>NeighborWorks \u2014 $95,000 to combat blight in West Scranton through residential fa\u00e7ade upgrades, community events, and leadership training.Agency for Community EmPOWERment of NEPA \u2014 $45,000 to renovate portions of its Scranton Pre-K facility.Allied Services Foundation \u2014 $196,650 to strengthen pediatric programs using its PROMPT EMR system.Beth Shalom Academy \u2014 $18,000 for new therapeutic spaces, counseling services, and anti-bullying initiatives.Friendship House \u2014 $157,500 to renovate office space and expand mental health and substance-use services.Geisinger Health Foundation \u2014 $210,600 to support rural workforce development programs for more than 800 high school students.Maternal and Family Health Services \u2014 $47,250 to improve birth outcomes among under-resourced women.NeighborWorks Beautiful Blocks Program \u2014 $112,500 to help Scranton homeowners address exterior repairs and reduce blight.Outreach \u2013 Center for Community Resources \u2014 $31,500 for job training programs serving vulnerable residents, including veterans and justice-involved individuals.Saint Joseph\u2019s Center \u2014 $153,000 for transitional housing and support services for homeless pregnant women and new mothers.Scranton Lackawanna Resources Development Corp. \u2014 $49,500 to build two affordable three-bedroom housing units.Telespond Senior Services \u2014 $16,650 to provide more than 8,000 meals annually to low- and moderate-income seniors.The Wright Center for Community Health \u2014 $45,000 to build a new clinic in North Scranton.Treatment Court Advocacy Center of Lackawanna County \u2014 $18,000 to support veterans in treatment court programs with recovery services and emergency aid.United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania (UNC) \u2014 $13,500 to expand the South Side Farmers Market and $146,700 for workforce development, language instruction, and career coaching for low-income individuals, immigrants, and refugees.Women\u2019s Resource Center \u2014 $18,000 to help survivors of domestic and sexual violence secure safe housing.About the Neighborhood Assistance Program<\/p>\n<p>NAP consists of five components \u2014 the standard Neighborhood Assistance Program, Special Program Priorities, Neighborhood Partnership Program, Charitable Food Program, and the Enterprise Zone Program \u2014 each aimed at strengthening communities through coordinated investment.<\/p>\n<p>More details about the program\u2019s statewide impact can be found in the NAP impact brochure.<\/p>\n<p>Kosierowski said the newly approved funding will support essential services while advancing long-term community revitalization efforts across Lackawanna County.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"LACKAWANNA CO.
