Democratic officials including Gov. Josh Shapiro have condemned the White House message on the state of the economy.<\/p>\n
\u201cDonald Trump and JD Vance\u2019s economic policies are hurting Pennsylvania,\u201d Shapiro posted on social media Tuesday. \u201cThey have raised prices at the grocery store, screwed over our farmers, and gutted healthcare funding.\u201d<\/p>\n
Shapiro, calling Vance\u2019s message a \u201cBS alternative reality,\u201d also took another jab at Trump\u2019s comments from Allentown.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know this Administration thinks the cost of living is a \u2018hoax\u2019 \u2013 but it\u2019s not, and Pennsylvania families know it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Shapiro, who faces reelection next year, is widely seen as a contender for the Democratic Party\u2019s 2028 nomination for president.<\/p>\n
Republican Party-endorsed gubernatorial candidate Stacy Garrity, who serves as Pennsylvania\u2019s state treasurer, spoke at the Vance rally Tuesday. Garrity praised the White House\u2019s economic efforts, pointing to Trump\u2019s temporary tax cuts for tipped workers and overtime pay.<\/p>\n
\u201cPennsylvania delivered for President Trump and Vice President Vance, and now they\u2019re delivering for all of us,\u201d Garrity said. \u201cPromises made, promises kept.\u201d<\/p>\n
But Garrity, talking to WITF before her speech, acknowledged that many Pennsylvanians still report they\u2019re experiencing higher costs of living on essentials, like groceries and housing.<\/p>\n
