PITTSBURGH \u2014 At the Pittsburgh City Council meeting on Tuesday, residents blasted the response to Saturday\u2019s snowstorm, as dozens of city streets remain in bad shape.<\/p>\n

None,\u201d Yvonne F. Brown said. \u201cI feel sorry for these bus drivers.\u201d<\/p>\n Some Pittsburgh City Council members said Saturday\u2019s storm proves that funding the vehicle fleet needs to be a top priority in future discussions about the city\u2019s finances.<\/p>\n \u201cRight now, our fleet is in horrible condition,\u201d said Anthony Coghill, councilman for District 4. \u201cThe onus is on us as council and government to really make sure our fleet is in good condition.\u201d<\/p>\n City council members told Channel 11 there are not enough trucks to adequately remove snow, saying there is much work to be done to ensure the city\u2019s snowplows, salt trucks, and the rest of the fleet are where they need to be for the rest of the winter season.<\/p>\n \u201cWe believe the number is about $20 million a year of what we need to be putting in there,\u201d said Bob Charland, councilperson for District 3. \u201cThis is not a new problem for us. We have not been making enough investment in the fleet for multiple years now, and it\u2019s something we need to address moving forward here.\u201d<\/p>\n Council members we spoke with agree that investment is needed into the fleet, but whether to do that by raising taxes \u2013 as proposed by Council member Barb Warwick<\/a> \u2013 is up for debate.<\/p>\n RELATED COVERAGE >>> Pittsburgh real estate owners facing the possibility of tax hike<\/a><\/p>\n Councilman Bobby Wilson of District 1 said there could be a better approach and is looking forward to having conversations with a new administration. Wilson said typically, the City of Pittsburgh has bought vehicles with straight revenue that\u2019s coming in, but he\u2019s looking into the possibility of paying for vehicles through a bond.<\/p>\n \u201cThe county does this, and there\u2019s other municipalities that do this.
