One man has died and a second was critically injured, officials said, after a shooting that happened early Wednesday in Philadelphia’s East Germantown community.<\/p>\n
According to police, an investigation is underway after, officials said, a 36-year-old man walked into a Philadelphia hospital after being injured in a shooting that, investigators believe, happened along the 1300 block of East Johnson Street, at about 12:40 a.m. on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The man, officials said, had been shot multiple times and was pronounced at the hospital at about 1:09 a.m.<\/p>\n
At the scene of the shooting, responding officers found a 42-year-old man — with two handguns in his possession, officials claim — sitting in an SUV along the roadway after he had been shot, as well. <\/p>\n
This man, officials said, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was listed in critical condition. <\/p>\n
In talking to NBC10’s crew at the scene on Wednesday morning, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said that investigators recovered 11 shell casings from the area.<\/p>\n
But, he said, police did not immediately determine a motive and have not identified any other suspects in this case. <\/p>\n
Also, police did not immediately provide further information on the victims in this incident. <\/p>\n
But, Small said, an investigation is ongoing. <\/p>\n
As of Tuesday, Dec, 16, 2025, there were 209 reported homicides in Philadelphia so far this year, down more than 17% from the same time last year which ultimately saw the lowest number of homicides in a decade, according to\u00a0police data<\/a>.<\/p>\n This is a breaking news story.
