Meghan Lamanna and Elizabeth Bennett each scored 17 points as the University of Scranton women\u2019s basketball team downed DeSales University, 74-48, in a nonconference matchup Tuesday in Center Valley.<\/p>\n
A 17-4 run over the final five minutes of the second quarter put the Lady Royals, ranked No. 2 in both the d3hoops.com and Women\u2019s Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 polls, in control as they improved their record to 10-0.<\/p>\n
Lindsay Bednarek\u2019s basket with 5:18 left in the second brought DeSales within 21-18. Bednarek led the Lady Bulldogs (4-4) with 15 points.<\/p>\n
But Katie Gorski hit a 3-pointer to ignite the Scranton run. Bennett and Lamanna followed with baskets before a 3-pointer by Bennett made it 31-18. Marissa LaVerghetta scored for DeSales, but Sophia Talutto sandwiched a layup and a 3-pointer around a Bednarek bucket. Bennett then capped the outburst with a layup to give the Lady Royals a 38-22 halftime lead.<\/p>\n
Scranton then outscored DeSales in the second half, 36-26. Its largest lead was 72-44 with 1:51 left in the fourth quarter on a Bennett 3-pointer.<\/p>\n
