After 15 years of dedicated service, Laurie Root is retiring from United Way of Erie County, leaving behind a legacy that shaped the organization\u2019s mission and future direction.<\/p>\n
Last month, staff, partners, and friends gathered to celebrate Laurie\u2019s accomplishments and the lasting impact of her leadership. In her honor, donations were made to install a book vending machine at Harding Elementary School, a United Way Community School a fitting tribute to Laurie\u2019s love of reading and her commitment to the Community School Model.<\/p>\n
During her tenure, Laurie played a pivotal role in modernizing operations and strengthening internal processes, making United Way\u2019s work more focused and effective. Most notably, she guided the organization\u2019s shift toward a mission-driven approach centered on Community Schools, supporting student success, economic vibrancy, workforce development, and creating a model community for others to follow.<\/p>\n
Reflecting on the organization\u2019s evolution, Laurie shared her optimism for Erie\u2019s future.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith continued collaboration, visionary leaders, and everyone\u2019s involvement, Erie will be where our graduates want to stay, where businesses want to come, stay, and grow, and where families thrive. That\u2019s something we all should celebrate.\u201d<\/p>\n
As United Way celebrates Laurie\u2019s retirement, the organization is preparing for a new chapter. On January 1, Mike Jaruszewicz will officially begin as President.<\/p>\n
Laurie expressed confidence in the transition. \u201cI am proud of what United Way has become and am incredibly excited for its future.\u201d<\/p>\n
