ACT 44: In November, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro signed Act 44 of 2025, amending the Public School Code to require direct notification to parents\/guardians and school employees when a student is found in possession of a weapon on school property, at a school-sponsored activity or on school transportation. The new law takes effect Jan. 5, 2026. A letter from SLSD superintendent Dr. Karen Trinkle explaining its implications in further detail is available online<\/a>. \u201cBecause of the law\u2019s privacy restrictions, schools are not permitted to share any details beyond the legally approved message,\u201d she wrote to parents on Dec. 8. \u201cWe want to proactively inform you in advance why these notifications may be brief and limited.
