MOOSIC, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) \u2014 Early Friday morning two officers from the Moosic Borough Police Department responded to Austen Close in the Glenmaura section of Moosic for a found dog.<\/p>\n
The dog, a brown and white husky, was reported to have been seen in the 9-1-1 caller\u2019s yard overnight.<\/p>\n
K9 Officer Stacie Sala did not respond to the call, but shared the condition the dog was found in.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was very friendly, but it was noticeably lethargic. The eyes were bright yellow,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
These photos of the dog were quickly shared to social media and sent to the Griffin Pond Animal shelter\u2019s Humane Officer, who expressed concern for the animal\u2019s health.<\/p>\n
Testing revealed the dog was in muti-organ failure, requiring immediate medical attention.<\/p>\n
\u201cGriffin Pond is shelling out the money for four to six thousand dollars for this dog. It\u2019s not a light bill,\u201d said Officer Sala.<\/p>\n
Found animals create a challenge for the department amid a shelter overcrowding crisis.<\/p>\n
\u201cGriffin Pond normally has to reject dogs. At that point we look at other shelters in the area to see if they have space or room,\u201d said Officer Sala.<\/p>\n
With shelters full, temporary housing for these animals must be found elsewhere.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes people can foster them, and it helps us just get them out of the police car and into a home for the night until they can find better care for it,\u201d said Officer Sala.<\/p>\n
The husky is thought to have been abandoned, and the police department Is actively investigating.<\/p>\n
They ask anyone in the Glenmaura area who may have security or Ring camera footage to review it and contact local authorities with any information.<\/p>\n
