Nick Miller, the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission, and Lehigh County Executive Phil Armstrong announced the next phase of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lvpc.org\/passenger-rail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/lvpc.org\/passenger-rail\">Lehigh Valley Passenger Rail Transportation Study<\/a> at a press conference. The funding includes $300,000 in state funding secured by Miller and $100,000 from the county, secured by Armstrong.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"UPYCVD2FYNB37JUQPGWWTMSYAQ\">This phase will lay the groundwork for a future project sponsor to advance feasibility studies and alternative analyses needed to restore passenger rail service to the region. The Lehigh Valley Planning Commission said Phase 2 will take 12 to 16 months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"JHTPDC36VZH6HKELL3MDLO4U4E\">\u201cTo keep the Lehigh Valley at the forefront of the Commonwealth, we must invest in additional modes of transit that connect people to jobs, education, and opportunity as we continue to rapidly grow,\u201d said Miller, a Democrat representing Lehigh and Northampton counties. \u201cWe need a comprehensive strategy that addresses congestion, travel times, and connectivity. Restoring passenger rail is about creating opportunity and improving quality of life for future generations.
