Two Allentown police officers were taken to the hospital Friday afternoon after rescuing a person from a house fire, authorities said.<\/p>\n
Police responded to the fire on the 700 block of South 10th Street around 1:45 p.m. A person inside the home was reported to be having a mental health crisis, according to James Gress, assistant police chief for support services.<\/p>\n
The officers along with city firefighters entered the home and rescued the occupant. The two officers and occupant were taken by paramedics to a hospital to be evaluated and are recovering, Gress said Friday evening. He did not specify the nature of their injuries.<\/p>\n
Police said they are investigating the fire, but that there is no danger to the community.<\/p>\n
Two residents were displaced from their home as a result of the fire.
