ERIE \u2014 Erie football lost its first league game since 2020, falling to Mullen 18-6 on Friday night.<\/p>\n

Mason Bonner, the Mustangs\u2019 6-foot-7 Michigan tight end commit, had the big-time catches one could\u2019ve predicted from 247Sports and On3\u2019s No. 6 best player out of Colorado\u2019s 2026 class. Yet his biggest play of the night may have been wrangling Oregon State pledge Braylon Toliver behind the line on fourth-and-goal from inside the 1-yard line in the game\u2019s first possession.<\/p>\n

The Tigers (5-3, 2-1 5A Front Range-South League) went on to sputter offensively until the fourth quarter, when an incompletion call in the endzone may have gotten in the way of an interesting finish.<\/p>\n

After a muffed punt by Mullen with 10:44 remaining, senior Parker Pruett\u2019s diving catch attempt was ruled to hit the ground and the Tigers ended up failing on fourth down, giving the ball back to the Mustangs.<\/p>\n

Gabe Sema, Erie\u2019s star TE who is committed to Northern Arizona, caught a TD on the Tigers\u2019 next drive, helping them avoid their first shutout in 10 years. Mullen\u00a0 (4-4, 3-0) then ran out the clock.<\/p>\n

Once a powerhouse under the voice of the Denver Broncos, Dave Logan, who is now at Cherry Creek, the Mustangs\u2019 first win in four tries against Erie may end up going down as the program\u2019s biggest in years.<\/p>\n

After the Colorado Preps 5A No. 9 Tigers were denied the endzone in the opening minutes, the big runs from Toliver, and everything that was working so well inside that first possession, evaporated for much of the next three quarters.<\/p>\n

Mullen, meanwhile, got the big plays when it needed. Nick Marcoux caught two touchdowns from quarterback Cole Parson, and Bonner caught another in-between and just ahead of halftime. The senior QB\u2019s third TD pass dropped over Marcoux\u2019s shoulder in the back of the endzone with 5:19 left in the third quarter.<\/p>\n
