{"id":66827,"date":"2025-12-21T14:21:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-21T14:21:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/66827\/"},"modified":"2025-12-21T14:21:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-21T14:21:08","slug":"lehigh-valley-power-outages-linger-a-day-after-winds-down-trees-lines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/66827\/","title":{"rendered":"Lehigh Valley power outages linger a day after winds down trees, lines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thousands of Lehigh Valley residents remained without power through early Saturday afternoon, a day after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcall.com\/2025\/12\/19\/lehigh-valley-power-outages-wind-advisory\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">high winds damaged trees and utility lines<\/a> around the region.<\/p>\n<p>As of around noon Saturday, <a href=\"https:\/\/omap.prod.pplweb.com\/OMAP#pg-tabular\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PPL\u2019s map for power outages<\/a> reported 1,220 affected customers in Lehigh County and 768 in Northampton County.\u00a0FirstEnergy, the parent company of Lehigh Valley provider Met-Ed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstenergycorp.com\/content\/customer\/outages_help\/current_outages_maps\/my-town-search.html?selectedTab=2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported on its website<\/a> 1,252 affected customers in Northampton County.<\/p>\n<p>By Saturday evening, total outages across the Lehigh Valley were down to around 1,200.<\/p>\n<p>At the peak of the outages Friday, more than 12,000 customers in the Lehigh Valley lost power.<\/p>\n<p>In a written statement, PPL spokesperson Jane George said Saturday morning that 101,000 customers have experienced a power outage and that restoration could continue into the weekend. She also provided safety tips such as avoiding downed wires, using flashlights instead of candles, and not using portable generators in enclosed areas.<\/p>\n<p>Met-Ed said Saturday morning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/1apQs1Jog9\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">on Facebook<\/a> that the severe weather disrupted power to nearly 51,000 total customers over its service region and that they\u2019ll continue to provide updates for specific locations on <a href=\"https:\/\/outages-pa.firstenergycorp.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">its outage map<\/a>. The FirstEnergy website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstenergycorp.com\/outages_help\/current_outages_maps\/my-town-search.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">estimates full power restoration<\/a> by Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStrong winds caused extensive damage, including fallen trees, broken poles and downed wires, especially in the hardest\u2011hit areas of the Lehigh Valley,\u201d Met-Ed said. \u201cCrews alongside our sister companies and additional contractor teams are on-site providing support and damage assessments are actively underway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The National Weather Service reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/wrh\/TextProduct?product=pnsphi&amp;id=e4206132-60ed-48ae-9966-f37958bf4b10&amp;fbclid=iwy2xjawozq3llehrua2flbqixmqbzcnrjbmfwcf9pzbaymjiwmzkxnzg4mjawodkyaaeexni3g_m9eedwmeepwf-wmzkp6moussswgh4kpa0u9zk60oddsvtn-mb2nhw_aem_3jtyz0mmdxzmdumcf6gd7q\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">peak wind gusts<\/a> on Friday of a little over 60 mph in Lehigh and Northampton counties, specifically at Queen City Airport in Allentown and in Forks Township.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/MapClick.php?lat=40.5936&amp;lon=-75.4784\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The weather service predicts<\/a> that winds will slow down and range between 5 and 15 mph through Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the extended forecast from the National Weather Service:<\/p>\n<p>Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 37.
