The Pittston Area Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday to name the district administrative suite after Frank Serino, the reigning school board president.<\/p>\n
An emotional Serino addressed the school board and the assembled audience after the vote. He thanked the dedication of faculty and staff and choked up while reflecting on nearly a lifetime of ties with Pittston Area.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been one great ride for me\u2026and only because I stayed with my heart,\u201d Serino said. \u201cThere isn\u2019t a better school district to work with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Serino, even before joining the school board, had a long career at Pittston Area spanning 33 years. After a stint as an algebra and mathematics teacher at a school district in Freehold, New Jersey, Serino joined the Pittston Area faculty teaching social studies. In the ensuing years, Serino assumed several administrative roles, including district principal and eventually superintendent. He was then elected to the Pittston Area Board of Education in 2018 and has spent much of his tenure there as school board president, a position to which he was reappointed at the Pittston Area reorganization meeting earlier this month. Serino is also a Pittston Area alumnus.<\/p>\n
Assistant Superintendent John Haas said Serino impacted generations of Pittston Area students.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is an honor that\u2019s well deserved and what you\u2019ve done for so many in this area, in this general community, speaks volumes to your character and who you are,\u201d Haas said. \u201cSo, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n
During his speech, Serino took special time to thank his wife for her sacrifice during his work with the district, and expressed pride in his four children, all of whom are also Pittston Area alumni, as well as his nine grandchildren.<\/p>\n
\u201cI couldn\u2019t ask for anything different or anything better,\u201d Serino said. \u201cI have so much to be thankful for.\u201d<\/p>\n
Serino said he also took pride in how Pittston Area and its students have improved the wider community.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe people that care, obviously, are the products of our employees,\u201d Serino said. \u201cThey\u2019re the ones that put together the attitude for success and encourage kids towards success.\u201d<\/p>\n
Longtime Pittston Area school board member Marty Quinn, who is himself the namesake of the Pittston Area Primary Center, called Serino\u2019s distinction \u201cvery well deserved.\u201d He recalled serving on the school board for the duration of Serino\u2019s career.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was here when he became our superintendent and I was here before that and I was here when he retired,\u201d Quinn said. \u201cAnd he did an excellent job\u2026I was always glad that I was able to serve him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Serino stressed there was still work left for the school board to do under his tenure and said he was eager to continue working in the district.<\/p>\n
